Active Kids

Children and teens aged 5 to 17 should aim for at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily to support their physical and mental health. This activity doesn’t have to be completed in a single 60-minute session. Instead, it can be broken down into several shorter sessions throughout the day. For instance, they could engage in 15 minutes of active play before school, another 20 minutes during recess, and 25 minutes of sports or outdoor games in the afternoon.

Incorporating a variety of activities, such as running, swimming, cycling, team sports, or even active games with friends, can help keep physical activity enjoyable and sustainable. Regular exercise is crucial for developing strong muscles and bones, improving cardiovascular fitness, and maintaining a healthy weight. Additionally, it supports mental health by reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, boosting mood, and enhancing overall well-being. Encouraging consistent physical activity in children and teens sets the foundation for a healthy and active lifestyle that can carry into adulthood.
